The General Council and Register Of Consultant Herbalists (GCRCH)
was founded in 1960 by the directors of the British Herbal Union with the
aim of ensuring that anyone consulting one of its members would
experience skilled, ethical and professional care.
In 1997, because of its international spread and the equal status of both
the Herbal and Homoeopathic Faculty, the GCRCH was re-named as
the International Register of Consultant Herbalists and Homoeopaths.
All registered members have received extensive academic and practical clinical training and
passed examinations set by the Faculty of Herbal Medicine and the Homoeopathic Foundation.
Members of the Register of Herbalists and Homoeopaths operate to a strict code of ethics and
professionalism, are subject to a rigid disciplinary procedure and required to hold relevant
indemnity insurance.
Members may use the initials DBTh (Diploma in Botano Therapy) or DHoM (Diploma in
Homoeopathic Medicine) and the designated letters MIRCH (Member of the International
Register of Consultant Herbalists and Homoeopaths) or FIRCH (Fellow of the International
Register of Consultant Herbalists and Homoeopaths). Use of these terms is limited by law to
members of the Register in order that the public may be aware that those using these letters
are fully qualified Members of the International Register of Consultant Herbalists and
Homoeopaths.
